Breakdown Cover FAQs: Autonational Policies, Cover Levels and Member Questions

What is Roadside Cover?
Roadside Cover is our entry-level breakdown cover. If you break down more than 1/4 mile from home, we arrange a recovery agent to help. If we can’t fix your vehicle at the roadside, we transport your vehicle and up to five passengers to a garage within a 20 mile radius.

What does Roadside Cover include besides Recovery?
Roadside Cover also includes our Emergency Message Service, help if you misplace your ignition keys and cover if your vehicle is rendered immobile due to an accident, theft, or vandalism. Because the cover is vehicle-based, any legal driver of the specified vehicle is covered. Second cars at the same address can qualify for a 50% discount when bought together.

Is there an age limit on vehicles you cover?

Stay calm and get safe first. If you can, move your vehicle away from traffic, put hazard lights on, and decide whether it is safer to stay in the vehicle or wait behind a barrier.  To report a breakdown, call us on our freephone Vehicle Breakdown Insurance number: 0800 1700 400 or 01708 963190 or visit our “Help I am Broken Down” page.

What happens if I break down on a motorway?
Emergency telephones are located every mile. Using one connects you straight through to the motorway police, who will ask you for breakdown details. The key priority is safety: if you are in a dangerous position, follow motorway safety guidance and use the emergency phone rather than trying to manage the situation alone.
